Partygaming Dikshit?s Guilty Plea

Dikshit’s Guilty Plea Causes Anger in Online Gambling World.

Co-founder of Party Gaming, Anurag Dikshit’s decision to pay out $300 million in a plea bargain with the US Department of Justice and his admission of guilt for engaging in ‘illegal online gambling activities’, has angered other co-founders of the company, as well as top executives in the online gambling world.

They fear that the plea will start an unwelcome trend in the market. “Dikshit’s decision has created a rift with his former Party Gaming colleagues, in particular the three other entrepreneurs who helped launch what was once the world’s biggest poker service.

Ruth Parasol, her husband Russell de Leon and their marketing guru, Vikrant Bhargava,” said a Times article over the weekend. “ It will also have troubled executives at other big online gambling companies, such as 888 Holdings. And it could have grave implications for the entire gambling industry, estimated to be worth more than $12 billion a year.”

The US has been pushing its weight around since the UIGEA was introduced, attached to a completely unrelated bill.  It is hoped that the Obama Government will overthrow the regulations but that remains to be seen.

It is thought in many circles that eventually the US will legalise and regulate gambling in the country to collect the many taxes that come with it.  This would be a real kick in the teeth for the people they are targetting with lawsuits at the moment given the poor laws relating to gambling within the US.

Dikshit, a multi-billionaire, can afford to lose $300 but the gambling industry can’t afford to continue to let the US Government run over it in this way.

2009 is sure to bring many new challenges to the online gambling industry, compounded by the state of the ecomony Worldwide - we’ll keep you informed.

JJ 3-way drawheavy board repping a draw.

Villain is a loose aggressive reg definetely capable of making plays. I don’t think he ever has a pair higher than mine and the way he played it makes me believe that he has a made hand and thinks I’m on a draw, so I rep a draw and shoves turn, I’m basically hoping to get called by a pair lower than mine. Would it be better to just call? I don’t think I can fold. If I call and he bets out a blank river do you call? and if the river comes an 8 or a spade, you think it’s profitable to bluff? His h

New York Times Opinion Piece by Lewis and Einhorn

Posted by ePoker Master under Poker Tournaments

I usually don’t bring over opinion pieces to the website, but there is a fascinating one by hedge fund manager David Einhorn & Michael Lewis, the author of “Liar’s Poker” and for you baseball fans “Moneyball”. It comes in two pieces online ‘The End of the Financial World as We Know It’ and ‘How to Repair a Broken Financial World’ I’ll post some excerpts below but these are two healthy sized pieces and if this type of thing is of interest to you, worth the full read. Since I’m so riled up ab

WSOP by the Numbers

Posted by ePoker Master under Poker Tournaments

This is probably old news to most, but while rummaging through an ESPN media site looking for a pic for the WSOP Europe post below, I came across these stats, which while familiar to me, I hadn’t seen all together, at least not without the summertime Fog og WarSOP clouding my perspective. Thought you all might find them interesting, too: The World Series of Poker — By The Numbers $9,119,517 - Prize for the Champion of the 2008 WSOP Main Event 28,000 - Number of pounds of TV equipment used t

Major Drawing Hand Shoved against by Very Agro

Posted by ePoker Master under Poker Tournaments

This hand has been driving me nuts since last night. It combines alot of things in calling a raise from a very aggressive player, B v B, and lots of draws as well as I guess some metagame. Although we have not gone to battle yet, everytime the pot has not been opened he has raised from the SB. Villian also has a 10 for AF and everytime he has raised he has C-bet. I have not gotten into a confrontation yet as I have folded everytime in the BB to his raise. I think my call pre-flop is standa
